8/25/09 Day Two Part 2

More imaginary little globes.

8/25/09 Day Two Part 1

Day Two was met with similar anticipation. Today several girls joined me for our Ronald McDonald’s Reading Club Lunch. Matthrew R. came up with a great definition of Science- the study of things in nature and how they work. Kids seemed to enjoy our Natural Environment A-Z Treasure Hunt. In Social Studies we labeled our oranges with lines of latitude and longitude…then ate them. Yum! OK Let's get a photo of each kid with their orange. Someone commented that they look like little basketballs.

8/24/09 First Day of Fourth Grade

We teachers had a plan to greet the families in the front of the school, however, many had a different idea. Excited children arrived early in the classrooms, ready to go. Our new fourth graders filed in, unpacked their belongings, and joined Sophia's dad in a prayer of dedication of ourselves and our school year to the Lord. We took more family pictures and then began our day. I'll post a few of their comments.

Cute Comment#1. One of the students asked if there was another teacher, in addition to me, (like in third grade when they had two teachers in a job share arrangement.) We talked about how we should go to the teacher supply store, in Walnut Creek, and buy a teacher, to help me.

My favorite part of school is recess. I also like that I got to see my friends. My teacher's name is Mrs. Larsen. She is very nice. I love all the subjects we're learning. I can't wait to learn more.

My first day of school was fun. The work was not too hard. I like fourth grade. I can't wait to learn more about California.
-Kim

My friends and I played dodgeball this morning. It was fun. I met a new friend, Matthew S. I think class is easy and fun. I did not have spare time. Everythings seemd to go so quickly. We had so little paper work to do. I did language, math, social studies, and others. I loved my first day of fourth grade.
-Clovis

I have made great friends with Dominique. She is nice, helpful, and playful. She is a joy and so is everyone else.
-Rain

I had a very good first day of school. I met almost everbody. Everybody treated me well and played with me. I learned alot of stuff. I met Mrs. Larsen a little better and I think I'm going to have an even funner time tomorrow.
-Matthew S.

My first day of school was fun. I had a very good time. I liked our new spelling books.
-Luke

We'll post additional pictures and comments tomorrow. Thanks for a great first day!

Meet and Greet

This afternoon most of our fourth graders and their families stopped by the classroom to meet and greet Mrs. Larsen and load their desks with books and school supplies. Most were concerned that they had a good view of the front board and were within ear-shot of the teacher. Trust me. At $5,00O a seat, there is not a bad one in the house. We welcomed our new students, Dominique and Matthew S.

Teacher Orientation

This morning our teaching staff completed orientation with “Best Lessons/Best Practices." We are blessed with a talented staff with loads of great teaching tips and classroom strategies. Posted is a picture of our staff after their imaginary trip to the Delta. Kinda crazy!

Work, work, workday!

A huge thanks to the many families who braved the heat and gave up their second to the last summer Saturday. Ms. Untalan and Savannah arrived early to move and paint the fourth grade desks. Nathanael arrived a bit later, with Nick and Sophia. They masked and painted fifth grade desks and inventoried and moved desks and chairs. Dominique, our newest fourth grader, was our expert desk cleaner. We were all too busy to take pictures. Everything sparkles and is waiting for your arrival. Our classroom needs one more thing...you!
